Knowing that Lima wasn't involved in Lem's murder and because Guardo and his girlfriend are expecting a child, Shane tried to dissuade Vic from his pursuit of Lima. During a raid on a Salvadoran grenade factory, Lem heroically saved Kavanaugh from an active grenade tossed in his direction by rushing to grab the grenade and throwing it away from Kavanaugh seconds before it exploded. 06/

He then calls Mackey to let him know that he just lost his leverage and to watch his back as in Armadillo's words Mackey had just been "greenlit" for death. Lem sharply refused to turn his back on his friends as Vic confronted Kavanaugh's cold treatment towards Lem, who could have easily let Kavanaugh be killed by the grenade but had risked his life to save him.

In my opinion, one of the greatest shows to ever be on TV was ended badly.
