This is the film that started my teenage obsession with all things Lon Chaney, and probably fostered a general interest with films of his period for a lot of people. The one main thing I learned was Chaney's son was not named Lon Chaney, Jr. Story of a man who grew up with deaf parents and who was never ashamed of his upbringing and used to traumatic childhood to get him work as an actor in Hollywood. Mr Cagney never gives less than his best and I think he portrays the mans energy and sadness with great effect.
