In the area is a number of carvings and pieces of art. The walkway continues beside the river, past the old flour mill site, to the quarry below the prison. Get there for low tide and walk along the coast for about 10 minutes. This is the best route for views of farmland, the lake and Mt Taranaki. Keep left on this and you will come out at the top of the reserve, cross the road and continue in the bush and you will eventually come out to the right of the gate at the entrance to the reserve. There are more steps involved in this very pretty section of the walkway. The walk starts at the mouth of the stream beside Len Lye’s Wind Wand sculpture on New Plymouth’s foreshore. From Bell Block Beach you can follow the Mangati Stream into the residential areas to De Havilland Drive and Parklands Avenue. Return the car park the same way. Then enter Sir Victor Davies Park. We walked along some of this walkway and it’s wonderful to see it so busy and being used by young and old.

When you come out of Sir Victor Davies Park into the car park, walk towards and under the Vivian St. viaduct. There are sculptures along the way. Oh, and it’ll cost for each DOC region you apply to use your drone.

There is a myriad of tracks in this reserve, many enjoyed by mountain bikers. After the bridge is a stretch of picturesque farmland.
